Emmaus Walk
Pastor: Pastor Brandi Rigsby

What is the "Walk to Emmaus"?

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the
development of Christian disciples and leaders. The experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity,
comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and
what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and
daily celebration of Holy Communion. The Emmaus Walk begins on a Thursday evening and concludes Sunday
evening. Men and women attend separate weekends, and Walk to Emmaus is ecumenical.

The Walk to Emmaus gets its name from the story in Luke 24:13-35. Luke tells the story of that first Easter
afternoon when the risen Christ appeared to the two disciples who were walking together along the road from
Jerusalem to Emmaus. Their sadness and hopelessness seemed to prevent them from seeing God's redemptive
purpose in the things that had happened… much like today’s Christians who are blinded by preoccupation with
their own immediate difficulties. Jesus came alongside of those disciples and walked with them and explained the
scriptures to them. Later when they had reached Emmaus, Jesus sat at the table with them. He took the bread,
gave thanks, broke the bread... and the disciples' eyes were opened and they recognized him.

The Central Ohio Emmaus Community meets at the First United Methodist Church in Marysville, Ohio.  Monthly gatherings are held on the second Tuesdays of each month.  If you would like to go on a Walk to Emmaus, please contact Pastor Brandi, or talk to your friends and church leaders who have been on a Walk. Please do not wait until you think you are ready; come just as you are. Jesus is waiting.  An application for the Emmaus Walk can be found in the Information Center of our web-site.  Additional information about the walk can be found at
